Un homme se retrouve au purgatoire après une tentative de suicide qui l’a plongé dans un coma profond. Il fait la rencontre d’un représentant divin de second ordre qui l’invite à jouer sa vie aux échecs. Mais l’homme refuse de retourner sur terre, préférant de loin les diableries aux humanités déchues.
