Berta a encore beaucoup de choses à accomplir avant d’avoir l’impression d’avoir vécu. Entre autres, elle doit traire une vache, s’éclater en dansant tout son soûl, exprimer toujours sa propre opinion et faire un voyage en cargo. Jonas n’a pas le temps de mourir. Lors de son quatre-vingtième anniversaire, Madame Wohlgemut s’aperçoit que les plus belles années de sa vie sont encore à venir.
