Il se passe quelque chose de nouveau dans la vie de Molly: elle n'est plus au centre des préoccupations de sa famille. Tout tourne désormais autour de l’oeuf que maman a pondu et ses parents n'ont plus du tout de temps à lui consacrer. Au pays des monstres, les parents emmènent les oeufs sur l'île aux oeufs où ils sont couvés. Molly, elle, doit rester à la maison sous la garde de ses deux oncles. Pourtant, elle a tricoté un petit bonnet pour le nouveau petit monstre, mais ses parents ont oublié de le prendre avec eux! Molly se met en route pour rejoindre l'île par ses propres moyens.
