Born in Canton Ticino, Switzerland. After training as a film make-up artist in Paris, she began working on feature length films and coproductions in Switzerland, France and Italy. This did not stop her from enrolling at the Università della Svizzera Italiana in Mendrisio in 1997 and graduating with a degree in Architecture in 2003. Since 2008 she is a member of the Accademia del Cinema Italiano, since 2016 a member of the European Film Academy and since 2020 a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
She has worked on the following films, among others: LORD OF THE ANTS (IL SIGNORE DELLE FORMICHE), MY BRILLIANT FRIEND (L'AMICA GENIALE), LIKE CRAZY (LA PAZZA GIOIA), IN TREATMENT, LAMERICA, IL LADRO DI BAMBINI, POLA X, SAME OLD SONG (ON CONNAIT LA CHANSON).
