Anna Schutz wurde von ihrem Mann verlassen und lebt nun allein auf ihrem Gut, das wie eine Festung bewacht wird. Sie kann sich mit dem Verlust ihres Gatten nicht abfinden und erwartet jeden Augenblick seine Rückkehr. Doch niemand kommt, ausser einem Eindringling, der sich unauffällig in ihr Landgut einschleicht.
