Die mutige, junge Hebamme Christine geht einen Pakt mit dem Teufel ein, um ihr Dorf vor dem brutalen Terror der Deutschritter zu retten. Durch eine Spinnenpest bestraft, wird Christine von der Retterin zur Gejagten, und die Gewalt eskaliert. Christine stellt sich dem entscheidenden Kampf gegen die teuflische Macht, die ihr das höchste Gut nehmen will, für das sie zu sterben bereit ist: die Menschlichkeit.
